Report on press freedom violations, August 2002
The Foundation for Press Freedom (FLIP) has released a report on press freedom violations in August 2002.
The report points to the critical situation for press freedom in Colombia. During August, FLIP’s Network of Alerts and for the Protection of Journalists (Red de Alerta y Proteccion a Periodistas, RAPP) reported on the following violations:
JOURNALISTS KIDNAPPED: 3
JOURNALISTS THREATENED: 6
PROGRAMMES THREATENED: 1
JOURNALISTS ATTACKED: 1
Also included in the report is an update on the status of a number of court cases connected to assassinations of journalists. Moreover, the report describes how the armed groups operating illegally in Colombia intimidate journalists in different regions.
