Oswaldo Álvarez Paz is accused of spreading false information and instigating hatred because of statements he made while appearing on the Globovisión TV station.
(IPYS/IFEX) – On 28 May 2010, the 25th Control Tribunal of the Caracas Metropolitan Area ruled that the former governor of the State of Zulia and political leader, Oswaldo Álvarez Paz, will have to go to trial.
He is accused of spreading false information and instigating hatred because of statements he made on the Globovisión TV station in March.
The requirement that he present himself every 15 days before the court and an order prohibiting him from making public statements about his case, both injunctions issued when he was granted parole, have been lifted.
However, Álvarez Paz is still prohibited from leaving the country without the court’s authorization.
The trial date will be set by the judges.
During the 30 May edition of the program “Aló Presidente”, Hugo Chávez referred to Álvarez Paz’s case and urged the courts and the Public Prosecutor to take action and prevent the political leader from making statements against the State’s institutions in the future.
