(IPYS/IFEX) – On 27 June 2005, journalist Daniel Coronell, director of the television news programme “Noticias Uno”, reported on his opinion column, which appears in “Semana” magazine, that on 19 June he received an anonymous threatening e-mail. Information technology specialists hired by the journalist determined that the e-mail was sent from the home of former senator Carlos Nader Simmonds.
The threatening e-mails sent to the journalist have been handed over to the Prosecutor’s Office. Since April, the journalist has received numerous threats, in the form of e-mails, telephone calls and funeral flower wreaths, with notes lamenting his death and those of his wife – journalist María Cristina Uribe – and young daughter.
On 28 June, Nader was called in for questioning by the Prosecutor General’s Office (Fiscalía). In an interview with “El Tiempo” newspaper, published on 28 June, the former senator said, “I take responsibility for all e-mails sent from my home. But I would like to see them, because I only sent him one e-mail and it was misinterpreted.”
