(IPYS/IFEX) – Genaro Delgado Parker and his son, Genaro Delgado Caferatta, accused of having misappropriated funds while running a corporation, could be sentenced to four years in prison, if the recommendation of the ad hoc prosecutor for taxation offences, Hilda Valladares, is accepted.
The prosecutor recommended to Judge Sonia Pineda Cáceres, of the Second Court for Taxation and Customs Offences, that Tele Cable General Manager Alfredo Marcillo Benavides, who was charged along with Delgado Parker and his son, be acquitted.
According to the prosecutor, Delgado Parker and his son unlawfully benefitted from an advertising contract between Panamericana Television (PANTEL) and Tele Cable in 1996. The contract arranged for Telecable advertisements to be aired during the broadcast of the eliminating rounds of the 1998 World Cup soccer championships in France.
According to the charge filed against Delgado Parker, Panamericana aired the advertisements, and Tele Cable paid for the service, but the money does not appear in the television channel’s accounts, and its end of year balance shows that the fee was not paid.
Delgado Parker has denied this accusation a number of times, further noting that so much time has elapsed that the limitation period for the charges has expired. Notwithstanding this, his appeals have been repeatedly ignored.
