Grupo Zeta representatives attempt to enter “Contralínea” magazine’s offices
Mexico City, 11 February 2009 (ARTICLE 19/CENCOS) – On 11 February 2009 at 3:20 p.m., Diego Romero Velasco, a lawyer for the Grupo Zeta gas company, attempted to enter the offices of “Contralínea” magazine accompanied by officials from Mexico City and the state of Guadalajara, who were supposedly in possession of a search warrant.
In an interview with ARTICLE 19 and CENCOS, Alba Martínez, one of the magazine’s journalists, said that the objective of the lawyer and the officials was to gain access to the “Contralínea” staff’s desks and files, although they failed to present the documents required to do so. The Grupo Zeta action had the support of several court officials, 25 police officers and four private security guards.
The group of police officers and officials and the Grupo Zeta lawyer subjected the magazine’s staff to verbal and physical harassment for 40 minutes.
This is the second time that this type of action against “Contralínea” has taken place in 2009 as a result of the numerous complaints that Grupo Zeta has filed against the magazine. The attempt to enter the “Contralínea” building is emblematic of the legal harassment to which the magazine and its staff have been subjected by the company.
