(IPYS/IFEX) – On 7 June 2006, the Foundation for Press Freedom (Fundación para la Libertad de Prensa), the Medios Para la Paz media group, the Prensa Rural news agency, “Actualidad Étnica” and the weekly “Voz”, as well as 16 non-governmental organisations (NGOs), were declared “military targets” in an e-mail sent to these institutions by an organisation which calls itself the “Free Colombia Democratic Front”. The nature and aims of this organisation are not known.
The Front also claimed that it was not responsible for the fake bombs which were sent to the editor and columnists of “El Heraldo de Barranquilla” newspaper on 3 and 5 June (see IFEX alert of 7 June 2006). The communiqué states, “we don’t miss (our targets), blame the FARC [Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia guerrilla group], they miss.”
The journalists’ organisations reported the threat to the authorities.
