(IPYS/IFEX) – On 3 May 2000, Ismael Horna, a reporter with Frecuencia Latina, formally accused Luis Gálvez, presidential candidate Alejandro Toledoâs bodyguard, of committing assault.
According to reports from the newspaper “Referéndum”, the complaint was filed at the police headquarters of Jorge Chávez airport in Lima, where Peruâs possible future leader agreed to talk with journalists prior to boarding a plane to Arequipa.
The assault allegedly occurred when press workers who were trying to get closer to Toledo struggled with his security guards. Gálvez attacked Horna under these circumstances, and then the journalist responded to the attack in the same way.
The newspaper reported that Toledo apologized to the reporter from Arequipa and assured that he would investigate the incident.
