(IPYS/IFEX) – On 19 September 2006, “El Nacional” newspaper journalist Paulimar Rodríguez was assaulted by women presumed to be followers of President Hugo Chávez when she was covering a march by opposition presidential candidate Manuel Rosales in the Antímano area of Caracas. The police prevented the incident from escalating.
According to Rodríguez, the assailants reacted violently when she asked them about a confrontation that they had had, moments earlier, with presumed Rosales supporters. She says three women struck her and pushed her to the ground.
During recent pro-Rosales marches there have been confrontations between his supporters and Chavez’s. The election will be held in December.
