Journalist Florencio Rebata Reyes had criticised the councillor's administration on his radio show.
(IPYS/IFEX) – On 12 March 2010, Florencio Rebata Reyes, a journalist for radio station Vida Mix, was hit by councillor Julián Molina Marín, of the municipality of Huaral, a city in northern Peru.
The journalist said that he was at one of the municipality’s offices when he was attacked by Molina, who insulted, punched and kicked him, tearing his trousers.
Julio Luis Carhuachín, president of Huaral’s National Journalists’ Association, said that the aggression was caused by criticisms made by the journalist on his programme against the councillor’s administration.
The incident was reported to the Huaral police station. Rebata also asked for protection, stating that Molina had threatened to hit him again.
