(IPYS/IFEX) – On 3 March 2009, journalist Pedro Pérez, press chief and news anchor for Canal 15 RTV television station, reported having received death threats via his cell phone and text messages after he was beaten up on 9 February by individuals involved in illegal land sales. The assault took place when Pérez was covering the evacuation of urban lands that had been illegally occupied in the city of Montero, eastern Bolivia.
Pérez gave the police a video recording that showed the faces of his assailants, but they have not yet been identified. The journalist has been receiving threats since the day of the assault.
Pérez’s foot was broken during the beating. Erick Balcázar, a 15 RTV camera operator, and journalist William Wasase and camera operator Mariano Delgado, both from Ángel TV, were also assaulted in the same incident.
