(IPYS/IFEX) – Javier Poma Sotelo, editor and host of the regional news program ATV Noticias and the program “Impacto” for channel ATV in Huaraz, northwestern Peru, has received several death threats since the early hours of 2 May 2006, via text messages to his cell phone. The threats started after Poma named César Kochi as one of the authors of the assault of which he was a victim at dawn on 2 May. The aggression took place in the discotheque “Cordillera Blanca”, owned by Kochi, when Poma was discovered inside the premises detailing the activities of a group of professional footballers as part of an investigation.
The threatening texts demand that Poma withdraw the accusation filed with the police after having been assaulted, or risk being murdered. The journalist will request protection from the city Prefecture.
