(IFJ/IFEX) – Soraida Ariza Mateus, correspondent for the Voz de Cinaruco radio station in Saravena-Arauca, was the target of a terrorist attack early in the morning of Monday 26 February 2001. An explosive device was attached to her house’s door.
The thirty-year-old journalist escaped unharmed from the incident, which occurred at 1:30 a.m. (local time). Ariza stated that she had not received any threats prior to the attack. Although her house was destroyed in the explosion, she added that she was not planning to move, nor would she abandon her work as a teacher at the Rafael Pombo College and as regional correspondent for the local radio station.
On 27 February, a number of Saravena organisations held a march to protest the terrorist attack. So far, there are no leads as to the motive behind the incident.
