News programme host Henry Lovera was beaten by the mayor of Pachacamac, who was upset over information provided by a source that was publicised via a live broadcast.
(IPYS/IFEX) – On 14 January 2010, journalist Henry Lovera, the host of the radio news programme “La Achirana”, was caught unawares by the mayor of the district of Pachacamac, Ángel Adrián Palomino Ramos, who burst into his radio booth and hit him, as well as damaging a microphone. Palomino was upset over information that was broadcast live on the programme. The incident took place in the city of Ica, in southern Perú.
Lovera told IPYS that the mayor hit him on the chest and face while insulting him. Lovera was broadcasting information supplied by a source who accused the mayor of having purchased paint with public funds for use in one of his own businesses.
The journalist filed a complaint about the incident with the local police and the Ombudsman’s Office.
IPYS condemns Mayor Palomino’s behaviour and demands that he be punished for his actions against the journalist.
