Flavio Flores Silva reported that a Brazilian company might have given money to the candidate's party.
(IPYS/IFEX) – Flavio Flores Silva, director of the program Clave Informativa on Radio La Ribereña, reported that he was insulted and threatened by mayoral candidate Carlos Alberto Ruiz and around 50 of his followers. The incident took place on 2 December 2010 in Bagua Grande, Utcubamba province, in the department of Amazonas.
According to Flores Silva, the incident took place on air while he was hosting his programme, during which he reported that a Brazilian transnational corporation may have provided funding for the candidate’s party, Surge Amazonas.
After the report ended, Ruiz and approximately 50 of his followers burst into the radio station and started to insult and threaten the journalist. When Ruiz realized the microphones were still on and that the threats were being broadcast, he took back what he had said and stated it was all a joke.
Flores Silva has nonetheless asked for protection from the Utcubamba government.
