(IPYS/IFEX) – Member of Congress Luis Cáceres Velásquez publicly apologised to journalist Rosa Reyna of “La República” daily. On Friday 22 September 2000, Cáceres verbally and physically attacked the journalist while she was reporting on events.
The apology was made during a gathering of parliamentarian reporters convoked by President of Congress Martha Hildebrandt in commemoration of Journalists’ Day on 1 October. Cáceres appealed to the journalists to work towards maintaining peace, tranquility and harmony while they go about their work.
“As regards the incidents of a few days ago, as a result of how recent political events in the country have affected almost all of us, we had a small disagreement with journalist Rosa Reyna, and if I offended her I publicly apologise. I do not believe [that a similar incident] is likely to occur again,” the member of congress stated.
