Daughter of murdered Guatemala journalist shot dead
The daughter of a veteran Guatemalan radio journalist gunned down on June 25 by unidentified attackers was herself fatally shot on Tuesday, prompting IPI to call on authorities to do more to protect journalists and bring their killers to justice.

Syrian president claims US journalist Marie Colvin was “responsible” for her own death
On July 13, Bashar el-Assad spoke with NBC News extensively on a variety of topics, including Colvin’s death in a rocket blast in Homs. He claimed that because Colvin had entered Syria illegally, she was “responsible of everything that befell her”. He also alleged that Colvin worked with terrorists.

Government announces journalist Dawit Isaak, jailed nearly 15 years, still alive
Following Eritrea’s announcement this week that Swedish-Eritrean journalist Dawit Isaak is alive after nearly 15 years behind bars without trial or official charge, the International Press Institute renewed its call for the release of Isaak and all journalists detained there in connection with their work.
