Rodolfo Flórez disappeared on 9 July and reports indicate that he was kidnapped by the FARC.
(FLIP/IFEX) – 7 August 2010 – Photojournalist Rodolfo Flórez reappeared on 5 August 2010 in Cali, Valle del Cauca. He had been missing since 9 July. Early reports indicate that Flórez had been kidnapped by members of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia, FARC).
According to the police, Flórez is dazed and confused but otherwise is in good health. He said he was detained by members of the FARC, possibly even by members of the Frente 30. Flórez indicated that he was able to escape several days ago and then walked until he arrived in Cali.
The police have indicated that they will give a more detailed report about Flórez’s condition and the conditions that he was held in.
FLIP is pleased that Flórez has been released and hopes that he is able to fully recover from the incident. FLIP calls on the authorities in the region to investigate the incident and provide Flórez with protection.
