(C-Libre/IFEX) – On 30 March 2011, national police apprehended Perro López, a Radio Progeso correspondent, while he was covering a take-over of a road in the community of Triunfo, Potrerillos municipality, Cortés department.
López had been covering the protest since 5:30 in the morning, but around 9:00 a.m. the national police and the army dispersed the demonstrators “in a violent manner, with teargas and attacks with batons,” according to José Meráz, the Radio Progreso press officer. He said that López had been captured while working and that he had been taken, along with others detained at the protest, to the police office in Pimienta and that during the transfer his tape recorder had been seized.
