During its campaign, the Palestinian Center for Development and Media Freedoms (MADA) will focus on the violations committed against journalists in Palestine and will feature real lifetime stories about impunity.
The Palestinian Center for Development and Media Freedoms (MADA) launched its third campaign for the International Day to End Impunity with the support of the UNESCO office in Ramallah.
The campaign aims to support those who were abused for expressing their views by perpetrators who were not held accountable; it also aims to raise awareness about the importance of holding freedom of expression offenders accountable, as a prerequisite to reduce these crimes. During the campaign, MADA will focus on the violations committed against journalists in Palestine and will feature real lifetime stories about impunity, in addition to launching a media campaign to raise awareness.
It is noteworthy to mention that the International Freedom of Expression Exchange (IFEX), which includes more than 80 institution engaged in the defense of freedom of expression, including MADA, decided at its general meeting in Beirut in 2011 to announce 23 November of each year as the International Day to End Impunity (IDEI), which marks the anniversary of the Ampatuan massacre in 2009, where 58 people were killed, including 32 journalists in the Philippines, and those responsible for the massacre have not been held accountable till this very day.
The day is devoted to demand justice for those who have been targeted for exercising their right to freedom of expression, and to shed light on the issue of impunity.
