(IPYS/IFEX) – On 3 April 2006, Radio La Salle of Urubamba journalists Dante Sanchez and Carlos Luna were summoned by police to make a statement about an interview broadcast on 9 March. The reporters’ two guests accused the region’s police of extortion and included the city’s chief of police in their accusation. The journalists will not respond to the summons, as they believe it to be a form of intimidation. The incident took place in Urubamba, Cusco region, in southeastern Peru.
The summons was sent by the Traffic Division of the Urubamba Police Station. The journalists had until 6 April to respond. IPYS supports the reporters’ decision, as it considers the police summons an act of intimidation.
