According to the police report No. 038-211 prepared by SEINCRI, Mayor Rivera Huerta ordered the murder because of the journalist’s criticisms of a series of municipal works.
(IPYS/IFEX) – On 9 May 2012, the Investigations Division of Peru’s National Police (SEINCRI) delivered its report on the murder of journalist Pedro Alonso Flores Silva, director of Channel 6 news program Visión Agraria, to the Prosecutor’s Office in Casma, accusing the mayor of the municipality of Comandante Noel, Marco Rivera Huerta, of being the mastermind behind the crime. The murder took place in September 2011 in the Ancash region of northern Peru.
Flores Silva was shot on 6 September 2011 and died two days later in hospital from a generalized infection. His murder was the second of three recorded last year in Peru, where no journalist had been murdered since 2007.
According to the police report No. 038-211 prepared by SEINCRI, Mayor Rivera Huerta ordered the murder because of the journalist’s criticisms of a series of municipal works.
In order to commit the crime, according to the SEINCRI report, Rivera contracted Rubén Remigio Castillo Antayhua, a.k.a “Viejo”, who hired Emilio Ciriaco Agreda a.k.a. “Makuto” to shoot the journalist. Both criminals are currently incarcerated, but a third collaborator, Vladimir Anderson Castillo Castro, a.k.a. “Centella”, son of Castillo Antayhua, managed to flee.
IPYS calls on the public prosecutor to see that the law takes its course as soon as possible and make sure that justice served so that those guilty of the murder of Flores Silva are judged and convicted.
