An explosive was thrown into the offices of Radio América by two individuals on a motorcycle.
(C-Libre/IFEX) – On the night of 27 November 2009 an explosive was thrown into the offices of Radio América by two individuals on a motorcycle.
National Police spokesperson Orlis Cerrato said that, around 11:30 p.m., an M-67 grenade was thrown into the station and exploded, causing damage to the second floor of the Radio América building.
The news programme director for Radio América, Luis Edgardo Vallejo, said the explosive was thrown by two unidentified people on a motorcycle, and that after the attack a car was seen circulating in the vicinity of the building.
“The attack resulted in minor damage. The intention was to intimidate us, but we don’t know why,” Vallejo said. He added that Radio América has always been non-partisan. He also maintained that the radio station has acted as a moderator between groups in conflict in Honduran society, and that they have always been successful in their efforts.
In a separate case, as of 28 November Canal 36 (Cholusat) television station was still off the air because of interference with their signal.
