(C-Libre/IFEX) – On 16 October 2009, the owner of Radio Gualcho, Omar Rodríguez, said that several individuals have called the radio station threatening to close it for broadcasting programming from another radio station, Radio Globo, which was shut down by the de facto government in Honduras.
Rodríguez said that the station has been receiving the calls for a month. He added that if the station is presented with a court order for its closure, they will obey the order but will continue working clandestinely via the Internet.
The head of the Human Rights Defence Committee (Comité para la Defensa de los Derechos Humanos), Andrés Pavón, visited the Radio Gualcho facilities to confirm what was taking place and said that he has filed a complaint with the Public Ministry (Ministerio Público, MP).
Pavón also called on the MP to initiate an investigation for the offences of property damage and raiding of premises, violations by the authorities of their powers and political persecution of Alejandro Villatoro, the owner of Radio Globo, as well as Esdras Amado López, the owner of Canal 36, another closed broadcasting outlet.
C-Libre also presented similar complaints urging the MP to begin proceedings against those who are responsible for the numerous freedom of expression violations that have been perpetrated by the de facto government.
