(IPYS/IFEX) – Journalist Giovanni Acate, director of Radio Oriente in the city of Yurimaguas, Loreto region, eastern Peru, says he has received a public apology from Loreto Regional President Robinson Rivadeneira Reátegui after having been harassed by Alto Amazonas Subregional Administration officials.
“The Loreto regional president called Radio Oriente to apologise for what had happened and promised to punish the Alto Amazonas officials who were responsible,” the journalist said.
Acate had reported receiving constant threats and insults from the Alto Amazonas officials after he reported on irregularities in the construction of the electrical grid in Santa Cruz, a district near Yurimaguas.
According to Acate, the officials insulted him and discredited his reporting on the issue in broadcasts aired on Radio Doble A station and Channel 6 television station.
