According to a local politican, Radio Libertad was targeted because it planned to broadcast an interview he had given to Radio Programas del Perú.
(IPYS/IFEX) – During the early hours of 20 October 2010, Radio Libertad’s facilities were set on fire by unknown individuals in Atalaya, a town in the Ucayali region of eastern Peru.
This attack against the radio station was preceded by strong protests against the reelection of Mayor Francisco Asís de Mendoza during the last regional elections. Supporters of candidate Adelmo Guerrero Enciso, who have accused the electoral authorities of fraud against Guerrero Enciso, had staged a protest at the municipality’s administrative offices.
According to Guerrero Enciso, Radio Libertad was targeted because it planned to broadcast an interview he gave to Radio Programas del Perú.
