(IPYS/IFEX) – In the early of 17 March 2005, unidentified individuals forced their way into “La Inolvidable” radio station and stole equipment and files from the station. The incident took place in Sicuani, 120 km from the city of Cusco, southeastern Peru.
The station’s director, Salvador Durand Aguilar, told IPYS that when he and his team of journalists arrived early in the morning, they discovered that the station’s electronic and audio equipment, as well as its journalistic files, had disappeared. According to Durand Aguilar, the files contained important information about allegations and pending journalistic investigations.
The police have already initiated an investigation into the incident. Although the motives behind the theft and the identity of those responsible are not known, some of “La Inolvidable”‘s journalists suspect that Sicuani’s mayor, Ricardo Carnejo Sanchez, may be involved due to the station’s repeated criticisms of his administration and the fact that in the past he has had problems with some of the station’s journalists.
