According to information distributed by “Prensa Libre”, on 10 April 2000, Carlos Andrés Gomez, a reporter for the news programme “90 minutos” and correspondent for the television news programme “Informativo 11 P.M.”, was wounded together with Genaro Muñoz. Muñoz is a cameraman for Pentavision and correspondent for the seven o’clock news programme.
The incident occurred in Cajibio, in the department of Cauca, while guerrilla members of the National Liberation Army (Ejército de Liberacion Nacional, ELN) were carrying out an armed strike blocking the Pan-American highway. Gomez alerted authorities about a strange object which later exploded and wounded his right leg. Muñoz’s knee was injured and he will now have to use an orthopedic apparatus.
