(CENCOS/IFEX) – According to Notimex news agency and “El Universal” newspaper, entertainment reporter Gloria Rubí was assaulted by rock singer Alejandra Guzmán. Guzmán had just performed as part of the eleventh anniversary celebration of the television programme “Otro rollo” when she struck the Televisa Puebla reporter and then refused to be interviewed by other reporters present.
After performing the opening act for the musical spectacular hosted by Adal Ramones, the rock star left the stage, located in the stadium of the University of the Americas in Puebla, when she was surrounded by media representatives who were unable to get close to the celebrity due to the aggressive manner of her bodyguards.
When interviewed on the incident, Rubí explained that she took the microphone from a workmate and thrust it toward the singer, a gesture that Guzmán misinterpreted, and reacted to by striking the reporter in the face with her hand.
“The slap in the face took me by complete surprise; I’d like to think that she misunderstood my gesture as I reached for her and for this reason she struck me; my idea about her has changed completely, as she had no reason at all to hit me in the face,” Rubí stated.
The rock star, who is singer Enrique Guzmán’s daughter, appeared annoyed with the media and used coarse language against them before leaving in a red pick-up.
CENCOS condemns all assaults against journalists for practicing their profession, and urges that freedom of expression and access to information always remain protected by Mexican law.
