(IPYS/IFEX) – On the night of 11 October 2005, Félix Adrianzén Gonzáles, editor of “El Paisa” weekly, was at home preparing the next issue of the publication when two shots were fired through a window hitting his living room wall. As he ran out of the house, the journalist saw a man with a hood over his head fleeing on a motorcycle driven by a second man. The attack occurred in the province of Jaén, Cajamarca region, northern Peru.
Adrianzén told IPYS he does not know who is behind the threat, although he does not rule out a possible connection to his reports on the attacks against the Majaz mining company. For over a month the journalist has been accusing groups of local citizens, unions and political parties of being behind a number of violent acts against the company, whose presence has created controversy in the region.
The journalist filed a complaint with the police and is planning to ask the Jaén Sub prefecture for protection.
