New York, June 22, 2001 — A Spanish language version of Attacks on the Press in 2000, is now available on the Web site of the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ), at www.cpj.org. The Spanish translation includes the preface, introduction, and a regional overview of the Americas, as well as summaries of press freedom conditions in 26 countries in the Americas, and a special report on Venezuelan president Hugo Chávez by CPJ Americas program coordinator Marylene Smeets.
All of the contents of the Spanish translation appeared in the 550-page English language Attacks on the Press in 2000, which surveys media conditions in 131 countries and was published in March of this year. The English version is also available on CPJ’s Web site.
