(IPYS/IFEX) – On the evening of 12 April 2006, ATV HBO television journalist Máximo Silva Chávez was attacked by two strangers after he took a taxi home.
According to Silva, the assailants, who were acting in collusion with the driver, boarded the vehicle and threatened to take him to one of the city’s most isolated areas “to see if he continued being critical” in his local television program. They made no reference to any specific subject. They then beat him. The incident took place in Tingo María, in the province of Leoncio Prado, in northeastern Peru.
The journalist stated that, after struggling with his captors, he was able to jump out of the moving car. The attackers fled.
Silva is unaware of the motives for the assault. During the last few weeks, however, he accused the public prosecutors of the province of Leoncio Prado of corruption, without presenting any evidence.
