(IFJ/IFEX) – According to information provided by “Prensa Libre”, journalist María Alejandra González Mosquera left the country after receiving death threats from a paramilitary group, the United Self Defenses of Colombia (Autodefensas Unidas de Colombia, AUC).
González worked for the “Super” radio network in Popayan and the non-governmental organisation Foundation for People’s Communication, (Fundacion para la Comunicacion Popular, Funcop), which carries out social programs in the Department of Valle del Cauca. An official complaint was presented by the former minister of internal affairs, and the journalist’s brother, Guillermo González Mosquera.
The journalist’s was among a list of names which appear in a letter addressed to the governor of Valle, César Negret Mosquera, because the AUC believes that González is a member of the western division of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia, FARC).
