(IPYS/IFEX) – On 6 November 2006, Radio Atlantis journalist Walter Yarasca Quispe, host of the programme “Contacto Noticioso”, was hit by two women at the entrance to the station.
According to Yarasca, the two women berated him for his comments about allegations of land trafficking in the outskirts of the town. The attackers hit the journalist on the head with a mallet and cut off part of one ear. They ran away without having been identified. The attack took place in the town of Ayacucho, southeastern Peru.
The journalist was aided by station staff. After having been treated by a medical examiner, he filed a complaint in Huamanga’s Provincial Prosecutor’s office.
