Reporter Edy Andino was shot in the leg while he was on his way home from work in San Pedro Sula.
(C-Libre/IFEX) – Tegucigalpa, Honduras – On 28 October 2011, Edy Andino, a police reporter and a host of the Channel 6 news programme “Notiseis Nocturno” in San Pedro Sula, was injured after several people shot him while he was driving home from work.
Andino says the incident took place around 8:30pm. He had left his workplace and was driving his Toyota Runner, and was turning onto the street that leads to his house in the Montefresco neighbourhood when a black car approached him and its occupants began shooting at him. The attack left at least 22 bullet holes in his car, he says.
According to one of the doctors who treated him, one of the bullets entered Andino’s left leg and exited through his back, but luckily the bullet did not perforate an artery.
“To survive the attack, I had to shout that I was from Channel 6, and then they stopped shooting at me,” he said.
The police reported that the four hitmen were driving a black vehicle and shot Andino with R15 rifles. They noted that the victim was confused.
Andino told C-Libre that he doesn’t know why he was attacked because he had not received any prior threats. However, he said that in October, he reported about a judge who let an alleged drug trafficker walk free.
