The South East Europe Media Organisation (SEEMO), an affiliate of the International Press Institute (IPI), expresses concern over the recent physical attack on Gezim Bimbashi, a journalist for Kosovo public broadcaster RTK.
Bimbashi was brutally beaten on 22 April at around 12:50 pm in “Sumadija” Square, in Kosovo’s northern town of Mitrovica. He was attacked with wooden flag handles while reporting on a protest organised by members of the Serbian community in northern Kosovo, who oppose the political deal which aims to normalise relations between Pristina and Belgrade.
SEEMO Secretary General Oliver Vujovic strongly condemned the attack and urged the local authorities and the international EULEX supervising force, under whose mandate that part of Kosovo falls, to provide security for journalists, cameramen and photographers.
