(IMI/IFEX) – The property of the television and radio company Chornomorska, which is the main mass media outlet of the Crimean opposition, has been seized, according to the “Ukrayinska Pravda” online edition.
The building that houses the editorial office and videotape recording studio, as well as the office of the ASsol radio station, cars and all other belongings regardless of their location are to be seized, the Chornomorska company president, Tetyana Krasykova, said.
“Since June the tax police have been verifying the business activity of the Chornomorska television and radio company. To my knowledge, to date no criminal proceedings have been initiated against any officer of the company regarding any offence,” Krasykova said. “I consider this another attempt to evict Chornomorska or to make its work more complicated since the tax police have been inspecting us and the Economic Crimes Department also spent five months investigating us.” She added that attempts were made to block the work of Chornomorska during election campaigns in 1998, 1999 and 2004.
The tax police and tax administration office refused to comment on the issue. “For the time being, we will not comment on anything,” said Artur Mazin, the tax police’s press officer.
Chornomorska is the most important regional television and radio company in Ukraine, broadcasting 24 hours daily throughout Sevastapol and the Crimean territory.
