Though the economic impact of the one-week suspension is not too high, the impact on the marketing for this newly published newspaper will be.
(Mizzima/IFEX) – The censor board under the Ministry of Information suspended the publishing license of the “Phoenix” weekly newspaper for one week, beginning with its 27 May 2009 issue. The newspaper only had permission to publish as an entertainment publication, but they reported the news of a dispute between Eleven Media Group and Yangon Media Group regarding a ‘Lucky Eleven’ advertisement in its 27 May issue. The censor board reminded the newspaper to publish only entertainment news.
“They have no time to edit when the journal is censored. The censor board can give them its permission to publish only on Wednesday. But they have already prepared the journal for publishing at that time”, a person from the censor board circle said.
The newspaper, which is published every Thursday, also said that they do not have enough time to make the necessary changes if the censor board gives its censored and finalised draft copy on Wednesday for the Thursday issue.
Though the economic impact of the one-week suspension is not too high, the impact on the marketing for this newly published newspaper will be.
