The leader of a journalists' union was beaten at a protest rally on 15 June 2009.
(CJES/IFEX) – Irma Inashvili, a leader of the journalistic union Objective, was beaten at a protest rally held in front of the Tbilisi Main City Police department building on 15 June 2009. The incident occurred as the journalist was filming police officers dispersing the protest.
Objective is currently working on a new documentary and Irma had been filming events for it since 9 April.
“The police recognized her and beat her up. Her right hand and leg were hurt. They hit her on the back and neck with rubber truncheons. The police broke all of Objective’s three cameras. Surprisingly, Irma was rescued by an unknown police officer,” said Nino Tskhoidze, editor-in-chief of the magazine “Emigrants”.
