IFEX joins numerous other signatories in urging the Georgian authorities to release Mzia immediately, drop the disproportionate charges against her, and conduct an independent investigation into the allegations of mistreatment against her.
“Most of the recent attacks on journalists happened at a 2 February 2 protest in Tbilisi, while others were obstructed or attacked at a smaller demonstration calling for the release of jailed journalist Mzia Amaghlobeli” – CPJ
In widespread and apparently punitive acts, Georgian security forces have chased down, violently detained, and beat protesters. Police also tortured and otherwise ill-treated them in police vans and police stations.
