The report reveals that electronic media journalist face high levels of risk in the line of duty.
(HRNJ-Uganda/IFEX) – Journalists who report for the electronic media or present opposing political views in talk shows in Uganda are at a higher risk of violations, according to HRNJ-Uganda Mid-Year Press Freedom Index report.
The Mid Year Press Freedom Index Report, which covers the period between January and June 2010, indicates that more than 30 journalists were subjected to different abuses and violations with the largest proportion of victims working with electronic media.
Although there were 21 cases committed against electronic media practitioners, photo journalism is also increasingly becoming risky with nine cases of attacks against journalists in the course of their duties.
The nature of the cases range from cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment and torture, illegal arrest or detention, attacks and threats, judicial sanctions, state interference, public statements to police harassment.
