(NDIMA/IFEX) – On 4 September 2001, a High Court in Nairobi extended an interim injunction restraining Text Book Centre from further distributing the book “Rogue Ambassador” by former United States Ambassador to Kenya Smith Hempstone.
Commissioner of Assize Jeanne Gacheche also blocked the bookseller’s agents and servants from further circulating or selling copies of the book, whose contents are the subject of a defamation suit filed by Kenyan President Daniel arap Moi and Cabinet Minister Nicholas Biwott.
The court also extended an order barring the Nation Media Group from serialising the book, which they had planned to begin on 22 August. The commissioner extended the temporary injunction issued by Justice Alnashir Visram on 21 August. The hearing was adjourned until 27 September, following an application by lawyer Desterio Oyasti, representing the cabinet minister.
