(Abraji/IFEX) – Luciano Pedrosa was shot inside the Porto Luna restaurant, in the northeastern city of Vitória de Santo Antão, on the night of 9 April 2011. The shooter escaped with the help of an accomplice, who was waiting on a motorcycle outside the restaurant.
The journalist was the host of the TV show “Ação e Cidadania” (Action and Citizenship) on the channel TV Vitória and also worked at the Metropolitana radio station. He was known for his critical coverage of crimes and the local authorities.
Carlos Leite, press agent for the civil police, said that the police are treating the crime as a homicide, since there were no indications of a robbery. Police also announced that a motorcycle driver was arrested on the afternoon of 12 April. The chief of the local police, Maria Bethânia Tavares, refused to give any further information on the case, but was expected to make an announcement on 13 April at 10 a.m.
