(IRFS/IFEX) – 27 December 2011 – On December 26, youth activist Jabbar Savalanli was released under a pardon decree issued by President Ilham Aliyev.

Jabbar Savalanli was originally arrested in February 2011 and charged with the possession of illegal drugs. On May 4, Sumgayit City Court sentenced him to 2.6 years in jail. On July 26, the Sumgayit Appeal Court and on November 29th, the Azerbaijan Supreme Court, upheld this decision.
