Scott said the legislator threatened to beat him up when spotted in the streets of Monrovia, and to use his power to ensure he is dismissed from Love FM Radio.
(CEMESP/IFEX) – April 20, 2012 – Journalist Malcolm Scott of Love FM Radio in Monrovia was on April 19, 2012 attacked by Montserrado County Representative Solomon George for what the lawmaker described as broadcasting a negative story against him.
Representative George accused journalist Scott of airing a story which described him as “dressing recklessly” in Plenary. Representative George was said to have publicly used invectives on journalists Scott and his parents on the grounds of the National Legislature as he unleashed his anger on the Liberian journalist.
Reporter Scott informed CEMESP that after the Representative had rained insults on him, a staffer of the National Legislature slapped and kicked him in the full view of other journalists and several other persons, while the Spokesman in the Officer of the Speaker of the National Legislature, Julius Matadi, also threatened to deal with him.
Scott said Representative George, who hails from the opposition Congress for Democratic Change, also threatened to beat him up when spotted in the streets of Monrovia. The Representative furthered threatened to use his power and relationship with Mr. Benoni Urey, owner of Love FM Radio, to ensure that the journalist is dismissed from the station, Scott further informed CEMESP.
During the scuffle, the journalist admitted airing a news story that describes the indecent dress code of Representative George during plenary sessions of the House of Representatives. The journalist further reported that the Representative was seen in plenary session with his neck-tie hanging on his shoulder.
