IPA is sending a letter to Canadian ministers about proposed legislation that poses a serious threat to educational publishing and creativity in general.
(IPA/IFEX) – Book lovers all over the world will be celebrating World Book and Copyright Day on 23 April – and the International Publishers Association (IPA) joins in the festivities organised by its member associations. Our colleagues in Canada, however, have one reason less to celebrate – and this is Bill C-11. This legislation proposal which will soon see its third reading before being considered by the Canadian Senate poses a serious threat to (educational) publishing and creativity in general. IPA, together with the publishers associations from the UK, France and Germany, the Federation of European Publishers (FEP) and the International Association of Scientific, Technical and Medical Publishers (STM) will be sending a letter to several Canadian ministers on 23 April 2012 in the hope that this serves as a last minute wake-up call, preventing the Canadian government from doing anything that, in the long term, will harm Canadian society.
