(JED/IFEX) – On Wednesday 21 March 2001, around 2:30 a.m (local time), Félix Kabwizi Baluku, editor of the daily “La Référence Plus”, published in Kinshasa, was attacked and threatened with murder by armed and otherwise unidentified soldiers, in Kinshasa/Kasa-Vubu.
Baluku’s attackers took him to a dark area before searching him from top to bottom. At that late hour, he was returning from the newspaper’s editorial offices, which are located not far from where the attack took place. The soldiers stole his mobile telephone and 2,000 Congolese francs (about US$10).
Afterward, they ordered him to leave, and told him to not look back, or else he would be shot.
