Two editors-in-chief of private press newspapers have fled their country
Israel Sboka, publisher and editor-in-chief of the weekly “Seife nebelhal”, and Samson Seyoum, former editor-in-chief of the weekly “Goh” and current reporter for “Ethio Time”, have fled Ethiopia and taken refuge in a neighbouring country.
Israel Sboka had been publisher and editor-in-chief of “Seife nebeldal” for the past six years. In his capacity with the newspaper, he was charged with six crimes involving violations of the Press Law. Before he fled Ethiopia, Israel Seboka had been fighting his legal case. Most of the charges against him allege that he disseminated information which led people to believe that there is no peace in the country, and that a war is going on.
Samson Seyoum Kebede was charged with disseminating fabricated information that could incite people to violence.
