A freelance journalist told CMFR that she has been threatened and harassed for over a year for reasons that she suspects are work-related.
Emmaruth Esteban said the threats and harassment are continuing.
Esteban added that the most recent incident happened August 7, 2015 when an unidentified man tried to force his way into her house in Mandaluyong City. The freelance journalist said another man seemed to serve as a look-out and was standing across her house where an SUV was parked.
Prior to the August 2015 incident, a group of unidentified men attempted to hit her with their motorcycles on December 25, 2014. Esteban said that she was standing in front of her house when she noticed a man on a motorcycle parked by her house. When she approached the man and asked why he was there, five other men on motorcycles suddenly appeared. The five men sped toward her and tried to run her over.
Other forms of harassment Esteban said she has been subjected to are threatening text messages, a box of bullets left inside her house, the theft of important documents, and unidentified persons following her wherever she goes.
Esteban is also looking at politics and a family feud as the possible sources of the threats, but does not discount the possibility that it might be because of something she had written. She has reported the incidents to the police.
