(WAJA/IFEX) – Roland Comlan, director of the weekly newspaper “l’Aurore”, was arrested at his residence on 23 December 1999 at 5:00 a.m. (local time) and detained at the national police station in Lomé.
The journalist is accused of publishing a report in the 15 December edition of his newspaper concerning the alleged death of a female secondary school pupil at a student demonstration which was suppressed by the police. The report was first recounted at a press conference.
