(PPF/IFEX) – On 17 May 1999, the Supreme Court ordered that the family of
Najam Sethi, editor of “The Friday Times” in Lahore, be allowed to meet with
him.

A three-judge bench of the court ordered that the government attorney
arrange Sethi’s meeting with his family and lawyers. Sethi has not been
allowed to meet his family since he was arrested by the military Inter
Service Intelligence (ISI) agency on 8 May on allegations of anti-state
activities.
The Supreme Court issued an order in response to a petition filed on Sethi’s
behalf, asking that the government present him.
